Gang of Albanians held on suspicion of cocaine smuggling and trafficking after drugs raid

A GANG of 21 Albanians were in custody last night on suspicion of cocaine smuggling and human trafficking.

The police raided 17 homes and arrested a gang of 21 Albanians

Police raided 17 homes after investigating an alleged bid to take over Manchester’s drug trade by gang members who entered the UK via South America.

Detectives also believe the 18 men and three women are involved in smuggling illegal immigrants into Britain.

A kilo of cocaine worth £100,000, two guns, a silencer, bullets and £30,000 cash were seized in the arrests across Greater Manchester and North Wales.

Manchester Police spokesman Supt Wasim Chaudhry said: “Cocaine is one of the most commonly used recreational drugs in the UK so it comes as no surprise that we frequently see a direct correlation between cocaine abuse and violence in the city centre.”
