Learner ‘drives off in his tutor’s car’ in the middle of lesson

A LEARNER driver has been arrested for allegedly stealing his instructor’s car in the middle of a lesson.

The driving teacher had got out of the vehicle to guide the 17-year-old through the complexities of making a three point turn.

But the pupil then suddenly sped off, leaving his stranded instructor on the side of the road at Hoo near Rochester, Kent.

Police were alerted and the Rover MG car was later spotted parked in Rochester town centre.

The youngster, who is from the town, was found and held by officers.

A Kent Police spokesman said the teenager had been arrested on suspicion of theft following the incident on Monday afternoon.

He is also accused of stealing a mobile telephone and wallet from inside the vehicle.

He was released on bail until February 24 pending further inquiries.

The name of the learner driver cannot be given for legal reasons.
