A woman found this chilling message on a television screen

The female guest found the concerning message when she turned on the television set at a Travelodge in Whitemare Pool on Tyneside earlier this week.

She immediately told members of staff who instantly apologised and removed the offending words.

Travelodge also issued her a full refund, a voucher for a future stay and began a full investigation with their television supplier.

A Travelodge spokesperson

A spokesman for the budget hotel chain said they suspect the television had been hacked using the manufacturer's code to change the setting.

Meanwhile, security experts said the threat may have been added via wi-fi.

The woman, who does not want to be identified, praised Travelodge for their swift action and said they had been "great about it".

A Travelodge spokesperson, who confirmed their televisions do not usually have messages on them, said: "We have already been in contact with the customer involved and apologised that such a message could appear."

Police said they had not received any complaint regarding the incident and were not investigating.
