Flight Lieutenant Richard Trevor-Roper was a rear gunner in Guy Gibson's lead plane for the 1943 mission to destroy dams in Germany.

He survived, earning a Distinguished Flying Cross, but was killed during a raid on Nuremberg in 1944.

His medals were found by relatives in a dusty box file.

They are being sold by Charterhouse Auctioneers of Sherborne, Dorset, on March 19.
