Anne Yaman, 64, paid off her mortgage, renovated her kitchen and enjoyed skiing holidays with the money.

The fraudster, who now lives in Seaford, East Sussex, was manager of a trust that ran a rural charity bus service in Bentham, North Yorks, and treasurer of a youth cafe in the town.

The bus service went bust, with the loss of 15 jobs, as a result of her thefts. Despite admitting fraud and false accounting, she delayed sentencing by faking letters from doctors, claiming she was too ill to attend court.

Judge Jonathan Rose jailed her this week at Bradford Crown Court. She appeared by a video link from Bronzefield Prison, Surrey.
