Eurostar will be running to many more destinations, including Lyon and Avignon

The e320s carry 900 people and will go into service in the Channel Tunnel next year.

In a £550million deal announced yesterday, Eurostar said it would buy 17 of the new trains from German firm Siemens.

They can run on different rail systems, opening up direct links to new European destinations.

Year-round services to Lyon, Avignon and Marseille will start in May.

In 2016, there will be trains to Amsterdam with stops in Antwerp, Rotterdam and Schiphol airport.

Eurostar chief Nicolas Petrovic said: “Passengers will see a complete transformation.”
