Jason Hutchings had put the S-type on a jack but the car slipped off and pinned him to the ground, leaving him unconscious.

The father-of-two was rescued when players who were training at Canterbury Rugby Club where the accident happened rushed over and lifted the heavy vehicle off him.

Jason, 38, from Faversham, Kent, was airlifted to hospital in nearby Ashford, where he is being treated for fractured vertebrae in his back, broken ribs and multiple fractures of his collarbone.

He said: “Without the help of the guys at the rugby club I would be dead. It was a big car and I just thought they would never, ever be able to lift it off me.

“But they did and I am eternally grateful.”

Rugby club chairman Giles Hilton said: “It's pretty fortunate that we were there.”
