Grylls, 39, flew to Skye with Stiller, 52, and hired a boat to get to remote filming locations.

The pair – who became friends after Grylls met comedy star Will Ferrell on a mountaineering course for a TV show – spent three days filming Get Out Alive.

The star shows celebrities how to survive alone in the wild and the show is expected to air on US channel NBC later this year

After a thorough soaking, Meet the Parents star Stiller and Grylls spent a night in Spar Cave, near Elgol, cooking on an open fire.

They then had to swim to a boat to change into dry clothes.

Stiller’s whistlestop tour of the west coast included a flight over the Cuillin mountain range and a visit to the Talisker distillery.

David Brown of Skye charter firm Bella Jane Boat Trips said: “I think they chose Skye because it is a wonderful outdoor location and is so picturesque.”

Grylls has also worked with  Stiller on the TV survival show Man vs Wild.
