Low on funds? Sainsbury's cash machine built 15 INCHES from the ground

THIS dwarfish cash dispenser - thought to be Britain's lowest - has popped up just 15 INCHES off the ground outside a Sainsbury's store.

Customers have been left with little choice but to crouch, bend and squat to withdraw money from the cash point, as it is the only ATM available outside a Sainsbury's Local in Nottingham.

Shoppers must stoop to conquer the outrageously low keypad and screen near the front of the Nuthall Road store.

Musician Steve Drury, 27, saw the dispenser as he toured with his band and posted a photo on his Facebook page.

He wrote: "Strange place Nottingham, they have midget cash points!"

He added: "I couldn't believe it when I saw it. It was just so low to the ground and a man using it was squatting to try to get his money out.

"The poor guy must have done his back in. It was so low it looked incredibly uncomfortable."

"It was quite funny though, so I had to take a picture and put it up."

The cashpoint appears to lower the bar, after an 18-inch high hole-in-the-wall in Whitchurch was hailed as Britain's lowest in 2010 reports.

Molly Kate Hancock commented on Mr Drury's post: "This makes no sense!" The Sainsbury's Finance ATM appears to be too low for wheelchair users."

A spokesman for World of Mobility, a local shop selling wheelchairs and mobility scooters, said: "Our wheelchairs are 30 inches up from the ground to the seat.

"That means the cash point would need to be at least 30 inches up, plus another 10 inches for someone to be able to reach the keys."

However, a spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: "The ATM is located on a hill which caused it to be built so low to the ground.

"We have never had any customer complaints about this but we are looking at solutions to re-locate it."
