Godfrey Bloom was 'idiotic' to hit Michael Crick, says Ukip's Neil Hamilton
UKIP MEP GODFREY Bloom was “idiotic” to hit Channel 4 News reporter Michael Crick, even though the journalist is an “irritating little squit”, said former Conservative MP and now Ukip employee Neil Hamilton.
Mr Hamilton, who himself is no stranger to controversy after his involvement in the Cash for Questions affair in the mid-90s, defended Mr Bloom’s “slut” comment at a Ukip fringe event yesterday, saying no one who was there was offended.
The Bloom affair is threatening to overshadow the 20th anniversary conference of Ukip, who are aiming to win next year’s European elections.
Speaking to the Express Online outside the main conference hall, Mr Hamilton said: “Godfrey is a good friend of mine but he did behave in an idiotic fashion.
“He shouldn’t have reacted to Michael Crick as he did. His conduct was indefensible.
“He shouldn’t at his age and with all his experience have blown up as he did.
“Crick is an irritating little squit there’s no doubt about that and I’m sure he’s just as complimentary about me.”
Mr Hamilton’s wife Christine was in the room when Mr Bloom made the “slut” comment, and said: “I laughed. I saw the whole thing.
“I also laughed when he hit Michael Crick.”
Mrs Hamilton said the only reason the comment had hit the headlines was because of “uber-sensitive journalists.”
She added: “I don’t clean behind my fridge.”
