Horse is poisoned by raiders
A HORSE is fighting for its life after being targeted by sick thieves wanting his mane to make good luck charms.
One-year-old Red was struck down after being fed potentially deadly sheep pellets to distract him during the raid on Carolyn Ashcroft’s farm in Rossendale, Lancs.
Now Red – one of five horses targeted at the farm in the past week – is in a critical condition with pneumonia and liver and kidney failure.
The thefts come amid a surge in demand for horsehair bracelets and necklaces which are worn as lucky charms by eastern Europeans.
Ms Ashcroft, 53, said: “It is one thing to cut the mane of a horse but another thing entirely to poison them. I am very paranoid now and won’t leave the horses in the field in case someone comes back.”
