Final helicopter crash victim's body is found
RESCUERS last night recovered the final body from the wreckage of a helicopter that went down in the North Sea.
Four people were killed when the Super Puma aircraft crashed off the coast of Shetland.
Rescuers recovered three bodies after the tragedy and a fourth was removed from the wreckage yesterday.
Police in Scotland named the victims as Sarah Darnley, 45, from Elgin; Gary McCrossan, 59, from Inverness; George Allison, 57, from Winchester, Hampshire; and Duncan Munro, 46, from Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
Chief Inspector Angus MacInnes confirmed: “The fourth person has been recovered.”
Eighteen people were on board, flying from oil firm Total’s Borgsten Dolphin platform, when it ditched on Friday near Sumburgh airport.
Initial reports suggest the aircraft experienced a “catastrophic” loss of power. All Super Puma helicopters have been temporarily grounded. The incident was the fifth in four years involving this particular model within the offshore industry.
