Real-life Basil Fawlty hurls out waiter
A REAL-LIFE Basil Fawlty was caught on CCTV slapping a foreign waiter before dragging him across his hotel lobby and throwing him out.
Robert Hardman, 54, flew into a rage when the former employee returned to claim £800 in back pay.
The 50-second tape shows Hardman attacking Romanian Sorin Paraschiv at the three-star Plough Hotel in Northampton.
Hardman admitted actual bodily harm and was given a seven-month suspended jail sentence at Northampton Crown Court.
Hotel staff later revealed they had joked that their boss was like the irate hotelier played by John Cleese who bullies Spanish waiter Manuel in TV comedy Fawlty Towers.
One said: “He’s likeable but he can lose it.”
