Terrorists plot attack on a Luton Territorial Army base using toy car bomb
FOUR men plotted a terror attack on a Territorial Army base using a remote-controlled toy car packed with explosives, a court heard yesterday.
They allegedly intended to direct the car through a gap under the gate and set it off beneath a vehicle.
One of the gang made a reconnaissance trip to the TA base in Luton to identify loopholes in security.
Mohammed Ahmed was secretly taped as he told a fellow terrorist: “At the bottom of the gate, there’s quite a big gap. If you have a little toy car, it drives underneath one of their vehicles or something.”
The jihadists were also taped discussing trips to Pakistan for terror training and bomb making. Other possible targets included MI5 HQ, a Luton shopping centre and the English Defence League.
Ringleader Ahmed, 25, Zahid Iqbal, 31, Umar Arshad, 24, and Syed Hussain, 22, all of Luton, admitted planning acts of terrorism last month.
Yesterday’s sentencing hearing at London’s Woolwich Crown Court was adjourned.
