Axminster carpet factory jobs cut
CARPET group Axminster yesterday became the high street’s latest casualty putting 400 jobs at risk by going into administration.
The announcement came as troubled music chain HMV said it is to close a further 37 branches. Axminster’s decision is “an enormous blow” to the town in Devon where its factory is based.
“Trading has been difficult,” said director Joshua Dutfield. HMV’s closures – on top of the 66 stores already confirmed to shut – leave more than 450 staff facing the axe.
A statement said it was “to enhance the prospects of the restructured business continuing as a going concern.”
