Alert over cat poisoning
THE RSPCA fears there is a worrying increase in anti-freeze cat killings across Britain.
Tracey Heap, 46, has been “devastated” after her two cats were poisoned within days of each other, prompting Beauty, a 6-month-old tabby, to be put to sleep earlier this month.
And her other cat six-month-old Charlie, Beauty’s kitten, is being treated by local vets in Smallthorne, Staffs, for similar symptoms, as Staffordshire Police launch an investigation.
Unfortunately, many animals find the taste of anti-freeze attractive. Ingesting even the smallest amount can lead to kidney failure and death.
Now the RSPCA has warned of the “dangers” to pets from anti-freeze. The animal charity said: “Unfortunately, many animals find the taste of anti-freeze attractive. Ingesting even the smallest amount can lead to kidney failure and death.
“We are concerned and saddened by a recent spate of poisonings across the country.
“The poisoning of a cat can constitute a criminal offence with six months imprisonment and/or a fine of £20,000.”
