Council tax bills ‘easier to afford’
HARD-pressed households will be able to cut their monthly bill payments under a new right to spread council tax instalments over the whole year.
Eric Pickles, the Communities Secretary, yesterday announced that from April people can opt to pay the annual charge over 12 months rather than the current system of 10 payments.
This lowers average Band D instalments by £24 a month.

He said: “We know people are worried about their cost of living expenses and we’ve already acted to freeze council tax.
“We have also changed the rules so hardworking residents can choose to spread their payments. These sensible measures will make paying easier.”
