Vicky and Matthew Robins given Santa joy for boys
KIND Sunday Express readers have donated hundreds of pounds to a couple who cancelled Christmas because they could not afford gifts for their young sons.
Vicky Robins, 31, wrapped their old toys so Blake, three, and one-year-old Thomas would have something to open.
The care company manager and her gardener husband Matthew lost their jobs. Both have lower-paid new ones, but survive on £27 a week after paying the mortgage and loan on their negative-equity house.
Mrs Robins, 31, of Gloucester, said: “Our story could happen to anyone. They could lose their job today and end up in the same situation.
“We don’t drink, smoke or take our children anywhere, I don’t even put on the kettle as it will put the electricity bill up.”
She urged readers to donate to local food banks, a lifeline for thousands every year.
