The rising costs of dad’s cabs
PARENTS spend up to 50 hours a month driving their children to school and to social activities, a survey reveals.
As many as 19 per cent of them fork out at least £1,200 a year on each child’s activities and the cost of getting them there.
A third of parents spend between 10 and 49 hours a month on “taxi duty” – and in two per cent of cases more than 50 hours, the poll by the AA/Populus found.
London parents are the biggest spenders, with one in 20 paying more than £200 a month per child on things like sport, music and dance classes – equal to £43,200 up to the age of 18. The results were based on 6,396 adults with children still at home.
Mark Peacock, head of AA Driving School, said: “Mum and dad’s taxi is still very much in operation as parents spend large chunks of their time getting their children to various activities.”
