Team whose dribblers have all got bibs
MEET Britain’s youngest footballers – baby Beckhams and mini Messis as young as two are flocking to join a club’s new under-fours group.
Club secretary Kieron Keegan said: “I don’t think many clubs in the country will have an age group as young as this.
“The FA acknowledges football age groups from under-sevens but we have 16 under-fives and 16 under-six children and have already had lots of interest in our under-four age group.”
The St Johns Junior Football Club in Tamworth, Staffordshire, launched its Soccer Saints development group to bring young children on with qualified coaches three years ago. Mr Keegan said: “It has been a success beyond our dreams. The under-fours is just the next natural step.
“Youngsters love kicking a ball, it just comes naturally. They do dribbling, learning eye-to-ball coordination. They love learning new moves. It’s wonderful how quickly they pick things up.”
