Forensic labs ‘risk’
HASTY plans to close the state-funded Forensic Science Service overlooked the impact on crime-fighting in favour of “the financial bottom line”, MPs have said.
They urged ministers to give the service a stay of execution beyond next March while private firms and laboratories taking over its work are brought up to scratch.
In a report today, the Commons Science and Technology Committee warned that using them with such a tight deadline posed “significant and unacceptable risks to criminal justice”.
