Four hundred year wait for osprey egg
FOR the first time in 400 years, an osprey has laid an egg at a nesting site in Wales.
The birds of prey had disappeared from woods in the Dyfi Valley in Montgomeryshire, until a male was spotted two years ago.
This year it attracted a female and wildlife experts are delighted that she has now laid an egg, the first on record since 1604.
Emyr Evans, manager of the Dyfi Osprey Project, said: “It was the Easter egg we were all hoping for. We are witnessing history in the making.”
A 24-hour guard is in place so the birds, given the names Monty and Nora, can hatch it in peace.
