Trust job woman shamed
A LEADING figure in the Co-operative Women’s Guild has been jailed after stealing more than £250,000 for holidays and online gambling.
National secretary Claire Morgan’s life spiralled out of control as she racked up massive credit card debt using the guild’s bank card in pursuit of “one big win”.
Her home was listed as guild head office but she abused the trust by authorising money transfers, Chelmsford Crown Court heard.
Some of the £247,898 owed had been paid back but the organisation was still £83,000 out of pocket. Morgan, 45 of Colchester, Essex, was jailed for 20 months after admitting fraud, theft and forgery charges.
