Clenching your fist is healthy
CLENCHING a fist may seem like an aggressive physical reaction, but it could be doing you a world of good mentally.
Tightening muscles – whether in hands, calf or biceps – can help you withstand pain, deal with bad events or resist temptation, says a study.
Volunteers were put through tests including plunging into iced water, drinking vinegar, watching earthquake victims and being enticed by food.
The joint study by the universities of Singapore and Chicago found those who tightened muscles reacted more positively to each situation.
The study said: “The mind and body are closely tied. Simply engaging in these bodily actions can recruit willpower, facilitate self-control and improve wellbeing.”
