British sailors so happy to be home
BROAD smiles lit up an overcast day yesterday as hundreds of family and friends welcomed home 650 British sailors.
The aircraft carrier Ark Royal and the destroyer Liverpool docked at Portsmouth to cheers from up to 600 well-wishers after four months of multi-national exercises in the western Atlantic.
The mission, known as Exercise Auriga, was hosted by the US and Canadian navies and also involved French personnel. But with the job done, our boys and girls were shore happy to be home.
