Two men in ‘double suicide’ hanging
TWO young men are believed to have hanged themselves in a suicide pact.
The bodies of the men, aged 19 and 20, were found suspended from the same tree in wooded wasteland yards from a nursery school in Cramlington, Northumberland yesterday.
One of the men was named locally as 20-year-old Christopher Harrington.
It is believed that Mr Harrington saw the younger man as a “brother” though it is understood they were not related.
Mr Harrington’s relatives said they were “too raw” to talk. Neighbours described the family as “lovely”.
Friends said both men had worked together until recently. A friend of Mr Harrington, who did not wish to be named, said: “I saw him a few days ago and he seemed his normal self.
“He was outgoing, chatty. I can’t understand why he would have done this. His mum died of cancer around two years ago and his dad works abroad a lot. The woods are only a few minutes from his house.”
The bodies were found by a dog walker. An NHS clinic is nearby but staff said there was no connection.
Michelle Johnson, 43, said: “The area is quite notorious for kids hanging out to drink and do drugs. It’s really sad what has happened. They were so young and I feel for their families.”
