Daniel Khalife has pleaded not guilty to escaping Wandsworth Prison.

Khalife, 21, allegedly broke out of the Category B jail on September 6.

He appeared at the Old Bailey this morning by videolink this morning from Category A Belmarsh prison, where he sat at a desk wearing a bright yellow and blue jumper.

Khalife, a former member of the Royal Signals who was based at Beacon Barracks in Stafford, was arrested on Saturday, September 9.

In court today, Khalife spoke to state his name and date of birth before pleading not guilty to a single charge of escape.

Asked by the clerk "are you guilty or not guilty?", he replied: "I am not guilty."

Usually prisoners on the end of a video link wear a grey prison sweatshirt or normal clothes, but Mr Khalife was dressed in a distinctive bright blue and yellow sweatshirt and trousers.

He will be back at the Old Bailey on October 13 and is due to stand trial at Woolwich Crown Court on November 13.

The three other charges he faces from before the alleged escape are collecting information useful to the enemy, allegedly Iran, eliciting information about members of the armed forces likely to be useful to a person preparing an act of terrorism, and perpetrating a bomb hoax.
