A woman has been charged with manslaughter after the death of an 11-year old girl in east London. Jesmin Akter, 33, of Sutton Street, Shadwell, was charged on Friday with manslaughter and importing a regulated substance, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The charges come after Fatiha Sabrin was found unresponsive at a block of flats on December 11, 2021.

She was taken to a hospital in east London where she died later the same day.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said in a statement: "Fatiha's family have been informed of this development and they continue [to be supported] by family liaison officers."

They added that Ms Akter has the right to a fair trial, continuing: "It is extremely important there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice proceedings."

Ms Akter is due to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, August 22.

The charge comes after an investigation by detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command.
