Town centres need to allow for proper traffic flow but incessant yellow lines, CCTV spy cars and trigger-happy parking wardens make life unbearable for drivers

Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles

Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles said: “Town centres need to allow for proper traffic flow but incessant yellow lines, CCTV spy cars and trigger-happy parking wardens make life unbearable for drivers looking for somewhere to park when shopping.”

Research for the RAC Foundation discovered that in 2012-13 local authorities in England made a profit of £594million from parking.

However, the new policy is issued only as “guidance”.

The DCLG said the Government was ready to consider the case for legislation “if needed”.
