Millionaire jailed for killing wife
A MILLIONAIRE banker who strangled his unfaithful wife during a violent row was jailed for eight years yesterday.
Neil Ellerbeck, 46, was described as an “obsessively jealous husband” who bugged phone calls between his wife Kate and her three lovers.
Kate, also 46, who had two children with him, died after a 55-minute struggle at their £600,000 home in Enfield, north London, last November.
The Old Bailey heard the HSBC chief found out his wife wanted to leave and had hidden £500,000.
Sentencing Ellerbeck, who was having an affair himself, Judge Roger Chapple said: “Your frustration erupted when it became clear that your wife was serious about divorce and it was then that you applied sustained pressure to her neck.”
He was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter on the grounds of lack of intent.
