'Solid core' still drink-driving
Police campaigns against drink-driving may need to be tougher, a Chief Constable has warned.
Julie Spence, head of Cambridgeshire Police, said a "solid core" of motorists was still prepared to "take a chance".
She was speaking after figures showed that 113 drivers were found to be over the limit during a month-long crackdown in Cambridgeshire - 20 fewer than in a corresponding 2008 campaign.
"Clearly, there is a solid core of drivers who still believe that it's OK to take a drink and take a chance on not being caught," said Mrs Spence, in an internet podcast.
"Perhaps our campaigns need to be tougher, perhaps our public education programmes about the dangers of drinking and driving need to be more explicit.
"I confess that I don't have any magic answers."
