Fire hero killed in bar blaze
A FIREMAN killed as he fought a blaze that swept through a bar has been hailed a hero by his colleagues.
They said 20 trapped people rescued by ladders from flats above Edinburgh’s Balmoral Bar owed Ewan Williamson their lives.
They screamed for help as the fire raged just after midnight yesterday.
Chief fire officer Brian Allaway said “We’re all devastated.”
The family of Ewan, 35, said: “This is a horrific shock. He was a wonderful, kind, sporty and outgoing person loved by all.”
Ewan died when a floor collapsed. An injured colleague was later released from hospital. Seven people were treated for smoke inhalation.
