Milburn to quit as MP
FORMER Cabinet minister Alan Milburn yesterday announced he would be standing down as an MP at the next General Election.
The Darlington MP has been criticised for taking on five other jobs alongside his parliamentary work since leaving the Government.
In a statement the former Health Secretary said: “I
left frontline ministerial politics and have not wished to return because I wanted to have a different way of life.
“Standing down as an MP will give me the chance to balance my work and family life with the time to pursue other challenges.”
When he declares his earnings for outside jobs under Commons reforms next week, Mr Milburn is expected to emerge as one of Labour’s highest earners.
