British Airways ALERT: Los Angeles to Heathrow flight BA280 in mid-air drama
BRITISH Airways flight BA280 from Los Angeles to London Heathrow has declared an alert while flying over Manchester.

The flight, which took off from the west coast of United States in the early hours of this morning, is due to land in London at 12.15pm today. Specialist airline Twitter accounts said the pilot 'squawked' a 7700 alert, which means a general emergency. However, this was later lowered.
A BA spokesman said: “It’s not an emergency, just purely a precaution due to a customer requiring medical assistance.”

The pilot requested a priority landing which was given by UK air traffic control.
The BA spokesman said the flight landed "as normal" at around midday.
