Met Office long range forecast: What will weather be like this month? Will it snow?
WINTER is officially here as the dark nights and freezing temperatures have arrived. But what will the weather be like this month - will it snow?
Met Office: Frost and fog to hit parts of the UK
Winter tends to bring freezing winds, gloomy rain and sometimes even snow to vast swathes of the UK.
And this year should be no exception as Britain's Indian summer switches out for chillier conditions.
High pressure over Scandinavia could act as a barrier to the air flow from the Atlantic, causing temperatures to drop.
While low pressure from former hurricane Oscar could lash the northern and western areas with harsh conditions this weekend.
What is the Met Office long range weather forecast?
The Met Office predicts November will be frosty and cold.
Their long range weather forecast indicates the first couple of weeks will be windy and cold, with occasional rain.
Forecasters said: “Early November looks like being generally unsettled with a mixture of showers or longer spells of rain, as well as some occasional drier and brighter interludes.
“Heaviest rain may be focused across western areas, with eastern parts often drier.
“It will be windy at times, especially in the north and west and particularly where we see heavier rain.
"As we head towards the middle of the month the forecast is uncertain, but there are some signs that it may turn drier across many areas with rain more likely confined to the north and northwest.
“Overall temperatures will be close to or above average, particularly in the southeast with fewer frosts initially.
"However, if the weather turns more settled later the likelihood of colder conditions with frost and fog would increase.”
The weather may turn colder towards the end of the month.
The long range forecast says the weather should be dry and fine during the day between Thursday, November 15 to Thursday, November 29.
However, frost and fog may settle at night, which will result in colder temperatures in the north and northwest.
The Met Office added: “After a milder start, the second half of November is likely to turn colder with temperatures becoming below average, with any milder interludes generally becoming short-lived.”
Will it snow in the UK this month?
While snow may not be on the cards according to the Met Office forecast, snowfall is certainly on the books.
Ladbrokes have slashed their odds of snow falling anywhere in the UK this month down to 1/3.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "The early signs suggest we're set for a potentially record-breaking Snowvember."
