In 2013 Jeremy backtracked after suggesting that legalising gay marriage might lead to fathers marrying their sons to avoid inheritance tax.

He said later that gay marriage was “wonderful”.

Recalling the interview actor and model Max, 29, says: “I remember thinking, ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re thinking through a problem out loud.’”

Max, who was named in this year’s GQ’s 50 best-dressed British men, adds: “I know my father and his views are similar to mine: as long as you don’t harm anyone else what you do and who you love are nobody’s business.

“Truth be told if you pushed him to explain what he was talking about, I don’t think he’d actually know.”
