THE world waited in wonder for this morning's eclipse. However, British celebrities were left less than impressed when they failed to see anything at all.

Amanda managed to catch a glimpse of the eclipse

This morning's eclipse, the first since 1999, created a social media frenzy when it peaked just after 9am.

However, overcast skies across the UK spoiled the view for most, with some even dubbing it the "worst eclipse ever."

The likes of Amanda Holden, Phillip Schofield and Michelle Heaton all took to Twitter to joke about the historical event.

Leading the celebrity tweets, 44-year-old Amanda did manage to catch a glimpse of something, at least.

The Britain's Got Talent judge took to Twitter to post a photo of the moon moving in front of the sun, alongside the caption: "The gods are smiling on us"

However, her This Morning co-star Phillip Schofield wasn't so impressed with the view. He posted: "Damn these clouds #eclipse."

The presenter, known for his wicked sense of humour, then later shared a sarcastic "wow" alongside a pitch black image.

Another star poking fun was comedian Jason Manford, who shared an edited shot of a fake sun and moon above a football pitch. He shared alongside the pic: "For anyone who missed the eclipse."

Other celebrities to share their opinions on the eclipse included former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Natalie Gumede, who said: "This is as good as it gets in London then is it? #eclipse2015 Can I go back inside now? #freezing."

She added: "I won't get to find out if my eBay-bought eclipse glasses burn out my retinas #hohum."

Patsy Kensit, who was also unimpressed by the lack of action, posted: "Also was anyone else disappointed with #eclipse2015 this morning? #LondonProblems"

An equally disappointed Michelle Heaton shared: "I don't get this eclipse ..! Is it making everything dark ? I can't see the sun anyway here."
