THEY got married less than six months ago, but it looks as though George and Amal Clooney are already having to spend quite a bit of time apart.

Amal, 37, was pictured out and about in New York City last night, and was once again on her own.

The Lebanese-British lawyer looked stunning in a pair of black leather leggings as she arrived back at her Manhattan hotel.

The pretty brunette, who married 53-year-old George in September, teamed the sexy trousers with a cream coat and a black beret as she grinned for photographers.

Amal completed her look with a pair of black suede ankle boots, a leopard print handbag and subtle red lipstick.

Her long hair was left down in a loose wave, and Amal's make-up was flawless - as always.

She is set to be spending a lot more time in the Big Apple after it was revealed she's set to join Columbia Law School as a visiting faculty member this spring.

Amal will be a senior fellow with the Law School's Human Rights Institute, and said in a statement that it was "an honour" to teach at the Ivy League institution.

"I look forward to getting to know the next generation of human rights advocates studying here," she told People.

Meanwhile, at the beginning of the week, George praised his wife as he gave a speech at a charity event in the city when he fluffed his lines on stage.

As he tried to recall how many countries the SeriousFun Children's Network's has helped, he accidentally overestimated the figure by a vast amount – stating a few hundred more countries than actually exist.

He began: "Since 1988, these camps have [helped] over a half million sick kids and their families from over five, from over 50, not just 500 countries... that would be too many," before he trailed off, realising he'd made a mistake.

"There aren't that many... Are there 500 countries?" he asked himself and the audience, before adding: "My wife's the smart one."

Amal was unable to join George on the night because she was in Egypt at the time.
