IN WHAT promises to be one of Coronation Street's most controversial story lines, schoolgirl Faye Windass is set to keep her shock pregnancy secret until the moment she gives birth.

Faye, played by Ellie Leach, will become the soap's youngest character to become a mum – aged just 12-years-old.

In Friday's double-bill the wayward pre-teen will discover she's pregnant, after months of worrying about the cause of her weight-gain.

After her pal Craig Tinker, played by Colson Smith, encourages her to take a pregnancy test, a horrified Faye then works out that she must be seven months pregnant already.

Soap bosses have confirmed that Faye will keep the rest of her pregnancy a secret from everyone except Craig, as she desperately tries to come to terms with the fact she is about to become a mother.

CORONATION STREET SPOILER: Is Faye pregnant with Jackson s baby?

Her mum Anna Windass, played by Debbie Rush, said the storyline has been "a huge challenge" for all of the actors involved but paid tribute to 13-year-old actress Ellie for taking on the shock storyline.

Debbie said: "Ellie is a little star - she has really risen to the challenge of this storyline and I couldn't be prouder of her. She always has a big smile on her face and is a pleasure to work with. She is nothing like Faye, not at all sullen and moody, we are very close and both looking forward to all the great scenes to come when Anna finds out.

"It will be a huge challenge as we have known about this story for so long now but obviously nothing has been mentioned on screen so we are ready to start playing it all out now. It will be interesting to see how Faye and Anna cope with it all."

Naturally, when the baby does arrive, it's set to have a big impact on the Windass-Armstrong clan who have already been through the mill over the past two years, having had their family home repossessed after being forced to declare themselves bankrupt.

Faye's step-dad Owen (Ian Puleston-Davies), who is known for his uncompromising approach to parenting, takes the news the hardest.

Talking of his reaction, Debbie added: "The last thing Anna will want is hot headed Owen going off like a rocket. I don't think he will blame Anna but I pity the baby's father if Owen finds out who he is!"

The identity of the father is being kept a secret for now, and it has not yet been revealed what Faye will decide to do once the baby is born.

Although the pregnancy is set to shock fans of the ITV show, viewers have seen Faye fall of the rails from time-to-time.

Last week her step-sister Katie, played by Georgia May Foote, caught her smoking in the park when she should have been at school

Previous to that, Faye had been caught drinking and was also tied up in a cyber-bullying storyline in which she picked on Simon Barlow.
