The Scottish star voiced her concerns about social media during an interview on Good Morning Britain today, admitting that Twitter had not responded to her reports once.

Speaking to Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard, the 43-year-old said: "I've got over it now, but it was really severe. I probably had to block over 300 people."

She continued: "When you block someone on Twitter you can send a report, but I never heard back from Twitter once, so that's what worries me especially when it comes to children.

"When kids get bullied at school in the playground people say things in the heat of the moment, but when someone's sitting behind a keyboard it's like a hundred times worse because they just attack in a very severe way."

Michelle found herself being threatened by Twitter users across the country after she spoke out against Scottish independence and becoming one of only a few business leaders to come out in favour of the Union.

Asked by Susanna if the abuse had affected her, Michelle replied: "It did affect me but luckily I am a strong woman so I just got over it but at that time of the referendum it was pretty severe, and as I said, I just blocked people."

She added: "I hate to think that if you're not strong and just getting on with your day-to-day job and you're not used to that sort of abuse... it really does concern me, especially with children. I hear some horrific stories from schools that people are getting bullied through social media."

Michelle went on to say that she never actually turned to the police, despite admitting that she no longer felt safe in Scotland at the time.

She finished her interview by saying: "I just think there needs to be more done from these organisations like Facebook and Twitter."
