PRINCE William will MISS his child being born to attend an engagement with his grandmother, if his sense of duty gets the better of him.

The Duke of Cambridge said he would 'do everything he can' to attend a First World War commemoration at the Cenotaph in London on Saturday, despite it being the date his second child is due to enter the world.

It is 100 years since the ill-fated Gallipoli landings in Turkey and the prince will join the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh for the moving service.

It leaves Kate facing the possibility of giving birth alone when she goes into labour and has to travel to St Mary’s Hospital, in London's Paddington.

A spokesman for Prince William said: "The Duke's intention is to be at the commemorations. Being the 100th anniversary it is very important to him."

Royal aides are refusing to confirm the royal baby's due date, despite royal sources saying it was April 25.

A senior aide told the Mail on Sunday: "We will have to see what happens.

"The Duchess has said the baby is due at the second half of the month but we don't know exactly when the baby will arrive."

William also faces a mad dash to the hospital if he is at work, as he is currently training to be an air ambulance pilot in Norfolk, Gloucestershire and Cambridge.

If Kate goes into labour during a shift, the prince will be faced with a 120-mile race taking two and a half hours.

Kate, 33, is understood to be basing herself at Kensington Palace in London before her due date to give her easier access to the Paddington hospital.

As soon as she goes into labour she will be calling obstetrician Guy Thorpe-Beeston,  who delivered Prince George in July 2013.

He will be leading the team of doctors and nurses throughout the birth.
