Prince Harry presents Soldier of the Year award

The Duke of Sussex's speech while presenting 'Solider of the Year' award to US combat medic Sergeant First Class Elizabeth Marks, has been described as "lacking passion", according to a body language expert.

Prince Harry appeared by a video link outside his Californian mansion to congratulate the four-time Invictus Games gold medalist and five-time Paralympic medalist who suffered bilateral hip injuries while deployed in Iraq in 2010.

Although Harry was "speaking with sincerity", body language professional, Adam Lyons, thinks something was lacking: "He is speaking with sincerity and definitely agrees with and believes in what he's saying, but what he's missing is passion.

"There is no smiling, no emotion. It's being delivered as it's 'supposed' to be delivered, almost like a duty as opposed to something he truly cares about."

Speaking about Ms Marks, Prince Harry said: "To me, she epitomises the courage, resiliance and determination represented across our service community. And this is not just because of her swimming abilities."

Continuing with his speech, Harry added: "Ellie has courageously overcome every obstacle to cross her path. She has turned her pain into purpose and led through compassion and willpower, showing others that the impossible is indeed possible.

"Ellie - you embody the Invictus spirit through your selfless service. You know that sport doesn't just save lives, it transforms them for the better. And in finding your own cure, you've helped countless brothers and sisters in staying alive.

"Your unwavering commitment serves as a beacon of inspiration, offering hope and setting a powerful example for others to follow. I am honoured to call you my friend and can't thank you enough for being you - and for Mason, your husband, for being so supportive of you."

Ms Marks attended the ceremony in person, which was hosted by the Military Times news site. Prince Harry, in the video, also thanked all the service members that were present at the award ceremony.

In relation to Prince Harry's previous engagements and speeches as a working royal, the body language pro added: "Harry very much looks like someone who has been trained to do these things - which he has.

"He's not delivering it like a media expert; he's delivering it like a royal. He is very to-the-point and matter-of-fact in getting it across which is totally understandable because that is what he's been trained to do since he was a child."

For the video, Harry wore a dark suit with four medals pinned to his jacket. His appearance has yet again sparked conversations about his military attire and in particular, why he can wear his medals and not his uniform.

The award ceremony was hosted by the Military Times - an independent news website which focuses on issues for the military community and honours one outstanding military member for each branch of service, based on service that goes beyond the call of duty every year.
