Queen Camilla was given a new hilarious nickname before she became Queen - but the King "failed to see the funny side" of it.

According to Robert Hardman's new royal book - Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story - Camilla was given the nickname 'Lorraine' by her family. The name is a play on the French word for Queen, which is 'La Reine'.

In his new book, the author - who was told the story by a friend of Camilla - wrote: "She always saw the funny side of that – even if Prince Charles did not."

Mr Hardman claims that the King wasn't a fan of his wife's new nickname, although Queen Camilla is said to have found it hilarious.

Before the couple's wedding in 2005, royal aides claimed that Camilla did not want to be known as Queen when the time came for Charles to ascend the throne.

In February 2022, as the Platinum Jubilee fast approached, the late Queen sent out a statement that said she wished for her daughter-in-law to be known as Queen Consort.

In a message to the nation, the late Queen said: "When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me.

"And it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."

The down-to-earth royal is often known for her sense of humour and quick wit.
