Queen will not tour country as part of Platinum Jubilee celebrations
THE Queen is in sparkling form and looking forward to celebrating her Platinum Jubilee, according to royal insiders.
She wants to take part in events marking her unprecedented 70 years on the throne but whereas she toured the country during her previous jubilees, this time the country may have to come to her. There is very little chance the 95-year-old monarch will visit the 50 or more towns, cities and London boroughs she did with Prince Philip for her Diamond Jubilee 10 years ago.
But she hopes to be at events in Buckingham Palace from April, when enough of the £369million refurbishment will have been done to allow her London residence to reopen for business.
The Queen has looked more frail in recent months but the intention is that she will be involved in the central jubilee events during a double Bank Holiday weekend in early June.
Those who know her well say she remains sharp. But there is recognition that the Queen, due to turn 96 on April 21, will be seen far less in public.
She has been under doctors' orders to stick to light duties since she went into hospital for 24 hours for "preliminary investigations" for an unexplained medical condition.
But on Saturday she met local community organisations at Sandringham House and delighted everyone.
The Queen also cut a cake at her Norfolk residence to mark the start of the Platinum Jubilee.
