Kate was spotted chatting with Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the reception hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. The Duchess of Cambridge entertained several guests during the key event, attended by many senior royals and more than 25 Nato leaders.
But she seemed particularly engrossed in a conversation with Mr Trudeau.
The pair can be seen chatting in a photograph taken at the event, where the Canadian Prime Minister smiles while the Duchess of Cambridge speaks.
The royal attended the event without her husband Prince William, who is completing today a four-day royal visit to Kuwait and Oman.
Other notable absentees where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are on a six-week break from royal duties, and Prince Andrew, who stepped down from royal duties in November.
Prince Edward was due to attend, but could not make it due to illness.
His wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, had a prior work commitment which made it impossible for her to be at the reception.

Yesterday evening Kate wore an emerald green dress and accessorised it with glittering teardrop earrings she borrowed from the Queen.
The Queen has been seen wearing the same earring on multiple occasions, including the State Opening of Parliament in 2012.
Several Nato leaders attended the reception thrown by the Queen.
Together with Mr Trudeau, senior royals welcomed to the palace Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, among others.
The evening ended after the Queen and Prince Charles sat in the Throne Room with the politicians in attendance to take a 'family' portrait.
The monarch, who sat at the centre, surrounded by world leaders, was highly praised by social media users after Clarence House shared the picture on Instagram.
One said: "The Queen... How does she do it? She is wonderful. So much class."
Another wrote: "The Queen must have met so many politicians in her reign. Like a living history book..."
And a third wrote: "The Queen is such an inspirational lady, and the colour of her dress is stunning."
For the occasion, the Queen wore a dress made by her dressmaker Angela Kelly.
The Queen paired her outfit with her signature handbag and a pair of black gloves.

The monarch wears gloves not just as an accessory but also to fend off any possible illness transmittable with contact, according to the Queen’s glove-makers.
Cornelia Jones creative director Genevieve James has previously told Readers Digest the Queen’s gloves offer her protection from dirt and germs when shaking hands with countless people every day.
She said: “I imagine she always has two or three pairs in her handbag to spare.”
