Royals who married COMMONERS: From Prince Harry to Lady Gabriella Windsor
ROYAL WEDDING fever is running high this Spring as Lady Gabriella Windsor is set to marry financier Thomas Kingston. However, she is not the only royal to have married commoner.
Prince Harry’s proposal DIDN’T go to plan reveals expert
Lady Gabriella will marry her fiancé Thomas Kingston on May 18, with the Queen and members of the Royal Family expected to attend the ceremony. Mr Kingston, a successful financier who works in market investment, has no alliances to the Royal Family - making him a commoner. However, Lady Gabriella is not the only royal to have married for love. Her royal counterparts, Prince Harry an Princess Eugenie both married non-royals in lavish ceremonies.
In May last year, Prince Harry married former Hollywood actress Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
The extravagant event was televised with an estimated 24 million people watching, and 1,200 members of the public were also invited to attend.
Harry met Meghan on a blind date arranged by a mutual friend in London in July 2016, and married two years later.
The pair’s relationship sent the press into a media frenzy as Harry became the first royal to have the Royal Family’s full support to marry Meghan - a once divorced, American-born woman who was raised Catholic.
In 1936, the Royal Family faced a constitutional crisis after King Edward VIII married American socialite, Wallis Simpson, who was also a divorcee.
He voluntarily abdicated the throne after the British Government, public and Church of England condemned his marriage.
This shows how much the Royal Family has changed over the years and is becoming more modern and progressive with their royal protocol.
Princess Eugenie also married a commoner - Jack Brooksbank, a former nightclub owner and a UK ambassador for George Clooney’s tequila brand, Casamigos.
The pair married in a fairytale ceremony in October last year at St George’s Chapel in Winsor, with 1,200 members of public invited to watch the riveting celebrations.
Eugenie and Jack met in Verbier, Switzerland while on a ski trip seven years ago.
Speaking about the moment they met, Eugenie told the BBC: “We met when I was 20 and Jack was 24, and fell in love.
“We have the same passions and drive for life. It’s so nice that we get to share this moment with everyone, and you get to meet Jack.”
Jack is a descendent from the Brooksbank baronets, a title below a baron, according to the Telepraph - meaning he has some distant royal ties.
Now, Lady Gabriella will jump on the royal bandwagon as she marries Mr Kingston at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, the same venue where Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie married.
The wedding will have an intimate ceremony, with only family and close friends expected to attend.
It is unclear which members of the Royal Family will turn up for the wedding - but Kate is expected to make a solo appearance, a royal expert has said.
Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “As the Queen is attending, Kate is expected to attend.
It has been announced that William will attend the FA Cup Final as President of the FA, last year he missed it for Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
“It is not thought likely he can make both.”
Announcing the wedding in September, Buckingham Palace said: ““Prince and Princess Michael of Kent are delighted to announce the engagement of their daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor to Mr Thomas Kingston.
“The engagement took place in August; Mr Kingston proposed on the Isle of Sark.”
