The Ukip leader is convinced Cameron will serve a second term as prime minister leading to a coalition after the general election in May.

As a result he is determined to win enough seats to be in a position of influence, vowing to make sure the Tories deliver on election pledges on immigration and the economy.

Farage, in an exclusive interview with the Sunday Express, said: “I think David Cameron will be the leader of the biggest party after the election.

"He is going to be ‘the guy’.

“I have absolutely no doubt we will come second in hundreds of seats, the real question is how many we will get over the line.

I don’t want a ministerial car, I want to drive the agenda

"No one can know this as it’s the most open general election in 100 years but I’m confident we’re going to get a good number of MPs into Westminster, which could put us in a very exciting position.”

He added: “Rank, title and position are not important to us, it’s influence.

"I don’t want a ministerial car, I want to drive the agenda.”

The ex-City trader, 50, wants to be able to use this influence to force Cameron to hold a referendum on the European Union, saying: “David Cameron has failed terribly on immigration, he has let the country down before with a broken referendum promise and I think his record with the deficit is awful.”

Farage, contesting the Thanet South seat at the election, said until Britain is free from EU control its MPs do not deserve a pay rise.
