Joe Biden is facing a furious backlash from Americans over his views on soaring inflation after bizarrely claiming: "They have the money to spend."

During the first three months of 2024, the US economy expanded at an annualized rate of 1.6 percent - far below the growth seen in the final months of last year. Inflation remains above three percent and well above the Federal Reserve's target of two percent.

During a visit to Wisconsin on Wednesday, Biden sat down for a rare interview with CNN as he attempted to defend his administration's handling of inflation - despite polls showing huge public dissatisfaction.

Responding to concerns about soaring grocery prices, Biden claimed Americans actually have more disposable income, attributing the inflationary pressures to "corporate greed".

He said: "They have the money to spend. It is real, but the fact is that if you take a look at what people have, they have the money to spend.

"It angers them and it angers me that you have to spend more. For example, the whole idea of this notion that you have... shrinkflation... It's like 20 percent less for the same price, that is corporate greed. It is corporate greed and we've got to deal with it."

Biden is now facing a furious backlash to his comments, with many people taking to X to many question his understanding of ordinary Americans' struggles.

One X user wrote: "Most people don’t have the money because they are honest, unlike pathological lying Joe!"

"He is the most clueless president this country has ever had and that is the way history will remember him", another added.

"The man is out of touch with EVERYTHING," said another user.

In the interview, Biden also addressed his rival Donald Trump's ongoing legal troubles, including the hush money trial in New York. He expressed skepticism about Trump accepting the election results.

"I promise you he won't," he said. "He won't, which is dangerous."

Biden also revealed advice from former President Barack Obama ahead of the 2024 elections. "Keep doing what you're doing", the former president reportedly told him.

The president also insisted he remains confident in his re-election prospects, citing favorable polling data and grassroots support.

"I think I'm feeling good about the trajectory of the campaign. And, and you know, as far as I do, most people don't really focus and make up their mind till the fall. There's a lot going on", he said.
