A scorching blast of roasting air from the Mediterranean will make parts of the country hotter than Ibiza, Corfu, California and even the French riviera.

Forecasters say today will be the hottest day since Halloween and will feel more like the middle of July instead of mid spring.

Sun-lovers will be flocking to parks and beaches to make the most of the sizzling weather and temperatures in the mid 70s.

Tomorrow is then set to be even hotter as sun-lovers enjoy at least two days of “back-to-back” scorching weather.

The Met Office is predicting 25C (77F) in the south with the north looking forward to temperatures in the high teens.

77F is possible in southern England.

Chris Burton, of the Weather Network

With almost 12 hours of unbroken sunshine expected in parts, it could feel close to 80F over the next 48 hours.

Although it will cool down a bit towards the weekend it will stay warm into next week with another scorcher just around the corner.

Met Office forecaster Dan Williams said this week will see Britain roast in “back-to-back” warm weather.

However he warned a north-south split will bring a much cooler picture to Scotland with even the chance of some snow over high ground.

He said: “Today is shaping up to be the hottest day of the year so far and tomorrow is looking even warmer also we potentially  have two of the hottest days back to back.

“We are looking at 25C in the south on Wednesday thanks to high pressure and warm air coming in from the Continent.

“Although it will cool down slightly by the weekend it is still warmer than average and this will last into next week.

“Overall April is looking like being a very warm and settled month.”

Legendary weather veteran Michael Fish agreed after the warm weather today and tomorrow it is likely to get cooler from the weekend.

He said: “There is cooler air moving down from the north towards the end of the week, however Tuesday and Wednesday are looking lovely and warm.”

Weather Network forecaster Chris Burton said a tropical Maritime airmass will drag warm air in from the Azores Islands.

He said: “A very mild tropical maritime airflow will see temperatures surge across England and Wales on Wednesday.

“The air over southern Britain will originate from the tropical Atlantic, with temperatures rising into to low to mid 20Cs  across many inland areas of southern and central England and south Wales.

“It won’t be warm for everyone, with cloud and outbreaks of rain pegging back temperatures into the low teens at best across Scotland.

“Although it will be cooler into the weekend, high pressure will continue to keep it largely dry and where the sun does come out, it should still feel pleasantly warm.

“During Thursday and Friday the far south-west of England may pick up a flow of air off the Continent which could lead to locally moderate or high levels of pollution.”

Leon Brown, forecaster for the Weather Channel UK, said: “High pressure and dry weather will be with us until Friday, although pressure falls from the west during Friday.

“Saturday will be a lot fresher but becoming mostly sunny over England and Wales.

“There will be Wintry showers across northwest Scotland in a gusty west wind, temperatures still 15C in the southeast.

“After next weekend the weather looks like it will become warmer again as the jet stream moves north.”

Independent forecasters at Netweather said in London and the southeast temperatures will feel close to 26.2C today (Wednesday).
