Purrrr thing: World's loudest cat Bluey can't find a home

BLUEY the cat is making a claim to the title of the world's loudest with a purr as noisy as a tube train.

Bluey the cat's purr has been registered at 93 decibels

The 12 year-old long-haired cat has a growl rather than a miaow and has registered an astonishing 93 decibels.

That makes her four times louder than the average cat and well above the current official world record holder.

Despite her fearsome sound Bluey is said to have a gentle and loving nature.

But her carers at rehoming centre say she is being shunned by potential owners who are being put off by her noise.

Claire Thomas, from the Blue Cross charity, said: “We've never had a cat in our care with a purr as loud as Bluey's.

“We thought it would be fun to see just how loud it is so we recorded it and it reached 93 decibels at its loudest, which is very impressive.

“Though she's surprisingly loud she's a lovely cat and we'd hate for it to stop her being rehomed.”

Bluey was taken to the charity's rehoming centre in Cambridge after her elderly owner went into care.

Staff were shocked when they stroked her fur and she started to growl like a dog.

They say her deafening purr keeps other cats awake at night and is almost four times the average level of 25 decibels.

Claire added: “Bluey purrs all the time. She just has to see someone and she starts purring.

She purrs when she's playing and she purrs when she's eating.

“We think Bluey is a little deaf but that doesn't stop her enjoying life.

She's such a happy, friendly cat and she will make such a loving companion.“

Bluey is actually louder than current Guinness World Record holder Smokey who was officially recorded at 67.7 decibels in March 2011, but could allegedly go up to 92 decibels.
